At the heart of this Norton release is the industryleading reputation-based security technology. This technology, onlyavailable in Norton security products, has been proven to attainunmatched detection of new malware far beyond what is possible withtraditional security technologies. New to 2011, Download Insight 2.0 increases the breadth of the product’s reputation protection by applying it to virtually every download regardless of the client (browser, email, IM). This helps ensure that users are protected from harmful downloads no matter how the fileis delivered to their machine. Additionally, Norton 2011 uses thereputation information to report on the “trustworthiness” of files on asystem and help users understand if theirdownload behavior is more or less risky versus the 53 million Norton Community Watch members today.

In addition to the Norton 2011 beta offerings, Symantec is announcingseveral new tools in the fight against cybercrime. These tools willremain free and address some of today’s trickiest and most prevalentissues related to malware infection and removal.
Norton Safe Web for Facebook - To counter evolving social networkingthreats and help keep consumers secure, Norton is introducing theNorton Safe Web application for Facebook. This free beta applicationprotects computer users by scanning their Facebook news feeds formalicious URLs, allowing them to identify risky sites before clickingthrough. This is critical because nearly 60% of unsafe sites identifiedby Norton Safe Web are found to contain threats that can infect a PCwithout requiring the user todownload or install files. Facebook members can find the free Norton Safe Web application here.
Norton Power Eraser - Some threats impersonate legitimate programs,modify browsers or boot screen graphics, and even redirect traffic. Dueto their deceptive appearance, users will often times allow theinstallationof programs that may appear legitimate, but are actually harmful.Sometimes, these "scareware" programs can require special tactics toremove them.
